Wow, this episode was fantastic! You remind me a lot of [a cooler version of] Rick Steves. I hope these videos get a wide distribution; they go way beyond just being about the food of Buffalo, and really portray the city and its people in a great light. I’m also really impressed by the production quality on what must be a pretty minimal budget.

Nelson, great true buffalo food subject. My grandfather was a Bethelehen Steel Worker & fisherman. These places have alot of memories for me and the fam.
I have to say that one of my favorite fish fries come from an American Legion post that I’m a member of. I think most of the cooks are over 65. Yum.

This is a charming story, well told and well shot. But I am Irish and I missed a little knuckle sandwich in there somewhere. This is all just a little too pleasant, for lack of a better word. A little more cowbell (and a few more ironic counterpoint cutaway shots, ala Paget of old) would be nice. But, like all of your work, it is engaging and a good story, well told.

Wow! That was great. Actually brought a tear to my eyes. I can’t believe Margot is still at Swannie House…Peggy is still running the center and all those people still come out to celebrate the Old First Ward/Valley…

Another fine episode, Nelson.
I work within walking distance of “Schwannie” House, so we eat there quite a bit (also before Bison & Sabre games)and have enjoyed many a meal–the patio is especially nice. During the ’50s (& into the ’60s) Fish Fries used local Pike, but alas there are no longer enuf fish to satisfy us all. The Deerhead in Cheektowaga does however still use Pike for it’s weekly Fish Fries.
Looking forward to the “Pussywillow Day” show next.

These videos really underscore the unique personality of this town. As a transplanted west-coaster, I’m awestruck by the sheer number of community events and activities that pepper the whole western NY region…so much history and culture here! Well done sirs!

You should do an episode the area of South Buffalo around the Irish Center. There are lots of great bars & restaurants… Charlie O’Brien’s, Doc Sullivan’s, O’Daniels. Not to mention all the pizza places like Abbott, Imperial and Jo Jo’s.
