“A Tale of Two Office Buildings” – Tim compares downtown Buffalo’s new Blue Cross / Blue Shield office building with the Ellicot Square Building, designed by Daniel Burnham. One building functions to nurture pedestrian activity and urban life, while the other deals it a deadly blow.

but i love it.
as far as urban planning is concerned you might post a map that demonstrates the density suurounding the ellicott building–this does not come through in the video. the isolation of the blue cross is very clear however.

Great series on how/how not to revitalize Buffalo! I wonder about the Main St. light rail line history– was it originally intended to link the SUNYAB old campus with a proposed new campus downtown?
(I grew up in Buffalo but left after high school, 40 years ago, occasionally love to visit.)
In “City On the Edge” by Mark Goldman, there’s coverage over the fateful decision to put the new SUNYAB campus out in the boonies (apologies, Amherst.)
This greatly reduced the utility of the mass transit line. In Portland, Oregon, my current home, the downtown Portland State University is expanding and keeps the area lively 24/7. Lightrail and streetcar lines have grown from the original one to about six.
“The past is behind us.” “The future lies ahead.” (Viva tautologies?) Buffalo is well-situated, so best wishes to community activists in their efforts to build new liveable and loveable additions to a city that can indeed rise again. (Plus, I hope you don’t get a suburban-style waterfront hotel to match that Blue Cross thing.)

To all the previously mentioned commentors. Blogs may be a lot better to examine when you can keep Your comments very simple and also to the stage. No-one likes to learn large feedback when the idea may be conveyed utilizing a not as long comment
