We Did It!

There was a blizzard blowing and we almost decided to bag it. But knowing it might be the only excuse to ever eat wings, weck and hot dogs all in one day, Nelson Starr and I mustered up the courage and appetite and headed out to film our short homage to Buffalo food.

After a few days of editing and scoring, we submitted the film (just before deadline) to the “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations FAN-atic Special” Casting Call contest. It quickly racked up more views than any other entry and was selected as a finalist. (watch it here). Alas, in the end it came in runner-up to a video entry from Saudi Arabia, and Tony headed for the Arabian desert instead of Buffalo snowdrifts.

But the story doesn’t end there…

Thanks to our film, Buffalo captured Bourdain’s imagination…and so, as most of you know by now, he arrived here this weekend to film an episode of his hit TV show No Reservations. Check out the coverage from Buffalo News and Buffalo Rising.

Great job on all of these videos! I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I look forward to seeing more about the great cuisine Buffalo has to offer. I love the fact that you were able to get focus on Bistro Europa — one of the hidden culinary gems in this area. I just hope it’s not too busy to get a seat next time I go in.

    Keep up the good work.

John, I had no idea you were involved with this. I’ve been renovating a bathroom for the past year (equivalent to living under a rock), and I had heard about the video to get Bourdain to come up here. Then I saw on Sunday at BuffaloRising that he came up, which is AWESOME.

Now I learn that you helped make it all happen. Total props to you and Nelson.

P.S. The Rotarian video you made looks great as well; excellent camerawork and editing.
